Soldier Recruitment Procedure in Indian Army
Soldier (General Duty) (All Arms)
Soldier (General Duty) are the backbone of the army and consist mainly of fighting troops apart from other trades. You could be enrolled into Arms or Services. The duties will be as under:-
- Arms. In Arms you could join the Infantry, Artillery, Armoured Corps, Engineers or Army Air Defence (AAD) as fighting troops, drivers, operators, gunners etc and many other General Duties.
- Services. In Services you could be enrolled into Army Service Corps (ASC), Army Ordnance Corps (AOC), Army Medical Corps (AMC) on General Duties, operators, drivers etc.
Physical Fitness Test
Physical Fitness Test (PFT)
To determine the Physical Fitness Test (PFT), the following tests carrying 100 marks are held:
- 1.6 Km Run.
- Pull Ups.
- 9 Feet Ditch.
MARKING SYSTEM IS AS FOLLOWS
1. 1.6 Km Run For all Categories.

Documents Required at the Rally Site
- Educational Certificate / Marksheet issued by the Recognized Education Board.
- Residence Certificate with photograph issued by the authorised signatory of the State Government / Tehsildar / SDM.
- Caste Certificate with photograph to be signed by Village Sarpanch except in the case of SIKH (Mazbi and Ramdasia), Gujjar and Gorkha candidates wherein it is reqd to be signed by the authorised signatory of the State Government / Tehsildar / SDM. Candidates belonging to Dogra Community to produce certificate with photograph issued by Tehsildar / Authorised Government Signatory.
- Religion Certificate issued by the authorised signatory of the State Government / Tehsildar / SDM.
- School Character Certificate issued by the Schools / Colleges Principal / Headmaster.
- Character Certificate with photograph issued by the Village Sarpanch / Municipal Corporation / Police issued within last six months.
- Unmarried Certificate with photograph issued by Village Sarpanch / District Administration issued within last six months (If candidate is below 21 years of age).
- Relationship Certificate issued by concerned Records Office (Applicable for only the Son of Serving Soldiers / Widows / War Widows and Ex-servicemen).
- NCC A / B / C Certificates. In case of NCC Certificate holders relevant certificates and certificate for participation in Republic Day Parade to be produced for dispensation.
- Sports Certificate to be produced if represented in the following
- Represented India at International level.
- Represented State at National Level.
- Represented District at National Level.
- Represented University Team or Regional Team at District Level.
- Candidates having O+ Level Computer Certificate ‘Business Professional Programmer’ issued by the DOEACC Society.
- Latest passport size photographs. Both the ears of the candidates must be visible and SIKH (Mazbi and Ramdasia) candidates must have photograph in turban and without turban.
- Kandi area certificate for applicable candidates to be issued by Tehsildar / Authorised Government Signatory.
Documents mentioned at Paragraph 1 to 11 above are required in original alongwith one photocopy of each document duly attested by Principal / Headmaster / Gazetted Rank Officer. Attested photocopy / printout of education certificate obtained from the Internet duly attested by the school Principal will be accepted at the Rally site for candidates whose original certificates have not been received from the concerned education board after declaration of the result or for candidates who have deposited their certificates in some other institute where they might be undergoing some professional course.
JCO / OR Selection – Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Educational Qualification and Age Criteria
|(1)||Soldier (General Duty) (All Arms)||SSLC / Matric with 45% marks in aggregate and 32% in each subject. No percentage considered in case candidate has passed higher qualification ie 10+2 and above.||17 ½ – 21 Yrs|
|(2)||Soldier (Technical) (Technical Arms, Artillery, Army Air Defence)||10+2 / Intermediate Exam Pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English with 50% marks in aggregate and 40% in each subject.||17 ½ – 23 Yrs|
|(3)||Soldier Clerk / Store Keeper Technical (All Arms)||10+2 / Intermediate Exam pass in any stream (Arts, Commerce, Science) with 50% marks in aggregate and minimum 40% in each subject. Should have studied and passed English and Maths/Accts/Book Keeping in Class X or Class XII with 40% marks in each subject. In case of graduate with Maths and English as subject in BSc, the stipulation of 40% in Class X or Class XII is waived off. In case of graduate without English and Maths /Accounts / Book Keeping, he should have scored more than 40% in English and Maths / Accounts / Book Keeping at least once in Class X or Class XII.||17 ½ – 23 Yrs|
|(4)||Soldier Nursing Assistant (Army Medical Corps)||10+2 / Intermediate exam pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with Min 50% marks in aggregate and min 40% in each subject. OR In case the candidate has a BSc Degree with (Botany / Zoology / Bio-Science) and English, the stipulation of percentage in Class-XII is waived off. However, the candidate should have studied all the four specified subjects in Class XII also.||17 ½ – 23 Yrs|

Dispensation in Educational Qualification for SOLDIER (General Duty) CATEGORY
The following have been granted dispensation : (Effective from 01 Oct 2010 to 31 Mar 2013)
Class X Simple Pass (instead of 45% aggregate and 32% in each subject)
- Jammu & Kashmir State. (Less Jammu, Sambha & Kathua district) and Ladakh Region including Kargil District.
- Uttarakhand State. Batwari Tehsil of Uttarkashi district, Okhimath Tehsil of Rudraprayag distt, Joshimath Tehsil of Chamoli district, Berinag, Didihat, Dharchula and Munsiari Tehsils of Pithoragarh district.
- Himachal Pradesh. Dist of Kinnaur, Lahul – Spiti.
- Gujarat State. Rapar and Lakhpat Tehsils of Kutch district.
- North East States. State of Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya.
- Rajasthan State. Jaisalmer and Barmer District and Shergarh, Osian and Phalaudi Tehsils of Jodhpur district.
- Punjab State. Candidates from Punjab who are domiciled within aerial distance of 20 Kms from the International Border (IB).
- Andaman & Nicobar Group of Islands. Settlers.
- Class / Community. All Gorkhas (Nepalese and Indian).
Class VIII pass
- Jammu & Kashmir State. Ladakh Region including Kargil district.
- Sikkim State.

- The above marks are fixed depending upon the eligibility of a candidate and has no relation to his performance in Common Entrance Examination (CEE).
- Only one type of Bonus Marks (Max of the permissible) will be added to the total. To elaborate, for Soldier General Duty, son of Ex-servicemen with NCC`B’ Certificate will get 20 Marks only and not 20+10 = 30 Marks.
